Managing locations

A location is a type of organization under which at least one host of recursive resolution is deployed in multitenancy mode—that is, capable of serving multiple organizations simultaneously. Other organizations can be connected to such hosts.

Host of recursive resolution is a physical or virtual server that hosts a recursive resolver.

The following types of host of recursive resolution are used:

  1. Cloud hosts

    • Deployed in the BI.ZONE infrastructure by default.

    • With Full On-Prem deployments, the hosts can be deployed in your infrastructure.

  2. Secure DNS Client Node

    • Deployed in your infrastructure.

    • With hybrid deployments, the host is connected to BI.ZONE cloud hosts by default.

Both organizations and other locations can be connected to a single location.

Example of location and organization hierarchy:

You can use locations to:

  • Distribute load across groups of DNS servers.

  • Prevent resource overload.

    For example, if 10 hosts can reliably serve 60 organizations, when adding the 61st organization, you can create a location with its own host to maintain system performance.

  • Place multitenant hosts in different parts of the infrastructure to reduce latency and optimize traffic

    For example, an organization in Novosibirsk can be served by a host located in the same region, rather than redirecting traffic to a host in Moscow.
